About This Article
This article includes instructions for creating an Apple ID and resetting your Apple ID password. It is intended for all WSU employees and students using iTunes or the App Store on their laptops, tablets, and other devices.

What's an Apple ID?
An Apple ID is required to perform many operations within Apple iTunes and the Apple App Store, including purchasing media and apps and updating purchased apps. as well as configure an iPad. Your Apple ID consists of a unique username and password. The username must be a working email address that you can access.

Can I use my WSU email address for my Apple ID?
If you are a student, the answer is "yes." Students can use any Apple ID they wish. The only exception would be students who have been assigned a WSU-owned device as part of their university employment. In these cases, students must follow the same rules as employees. If you are an employee and you are using an Apple ID on a university-owned device (e.g., laptop, tablet, smartphone), please consider the following:
*If you already have an Apple ID, used your WSU email address to create it, and have purchased personal items such as movies and music with that ID, that's fine. You should use that Apple ID on university-owned devices. You are strongly encouraged to create a second Apple ID using another email address (e.g., Gmail) and begin transitioning your personal transactions to that ID. In other words, establish a separate Apple ID for personal and work purposes. Use your personal ID on personally-owned devices and switch to that ID if you ever need to make personal purchases on university-owned devices. We understand that some of you may have been using your current Apple ID associated with your WSU email address to make personal purchases for a long time and that the separation of work from personal media and apps may take some time and thought. TLT can help you with this.
*If you already have an Apple ID and you used another email address (e.g., Gmail) to create it, create a second Apple ID using your WSU email address and use that ID to configure university-owned devices and make work-related purchases.
*If you don't have an Apple ID, create one using your WSU email address and use it to configure university-owned devices and make work-related purchases. If you think you will be making personal purchases, create a second Apple ID using a different email address (e.g., Gmail).

Creating a Free Apple ID on Your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch
If you are creating an Apple ID to use prior to configuring your iOS device, it would be best to create it on your laptop. Refer to Creating an Apple ID on Your Laptop below.

If you are creating an Apple ID as part of the configuration of your iOS device, refer to Create a Free Apple ID for instructions.

To create a free Apple ID from your iOS device after it is configured and functional, follow these steps:

*Open either iTunes or App Store.
*Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Sign In button.
*When prompted by the ensuing dialog, select Create Apple ID.
*Enter your personal information in the dialogs that follow. Birth dates and security questions are used to help identify you if there is a problem with your Apple ID or you forget your password.
*After all information is entered, create your Apple ID.

Creating an Apple ID on Your Laptop
Creating a free Apple ID on the Web is fast and simple. Go to the
My Apple ID web site and fill out the form.

*Enter your personal information into the form.
*Include your birthday and answers to the security question. These will be used to help identify you in case you forget your password or your Apple ID becomes disabled.
*Enter the Captcha (the letters and numbers at the end used to make sure you are a human and not another computer).
*Press Create Apple ID.

"Oh Oh, I Don't Remember My Apple ID Password."
Hey, we all forget things and Apple ID passwords are no exception.

Resetting your password is a simple operation. Begin at https://iforgot.apple.com.

Enter you Apple ID in the Apple ID box. (See below.)

If you do not remember your Apple ID, you can click the "Forgot your Apple ID?" link and answer the security questions to retrieve your Apple ID. Here is a hint if you have forgotten your Apple ID: Apple IDs are ALWAYS full email addresses.

You will be given the choice to receive password reset information as email or to answer the security questions and reset your password online.

*Selecting "Email authentication" causes Apple's web site to send an email to both the email address you used as your Apple ID and to the optional emergency email you may have entered during the Apple ID creation process. Follow the steps in the email and you will reset your password to a new value.

*Selecting "Answer security questions" causes Apple's web site to ask you the security questions you selected and answered during the Apple ID creation process. Answering the questions correctly gives you a web page that includes fields for resetting the password to a new value.

*Step 1: Start up the App and wait for it to get ready for first time use.

It's actually really easy! Office Android apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) are all simplified versions of their desktop counterparts; if you have any experience with Office programs, you will be able to figure out Office for Android.

When you open an Office for Android app, you will start in a window with many templates for what you want to create. Just select a template and start working on your file!

You can also open a saved file that you've already been working on from the Recent tab or under the Open menu. You have a choice of opening it from your Android tablet (if saved on it) or adding other locations such as for Business or a personal OneDrive to receive, edit files from, and save to. ==About this article==
This article provides an overview of Co-Authoring Documents on Microsoft's OneDrive for Business (formerly known as SkyDrive Pro) cloud storage service. It is intended for both students and employees.

Co-Authoring in OneDrive
Co-Authoring in OneDrive means to have two or more people be able to edit a document simultaneously. This can only be done while you have an active internet connection.

*To begin simply go to OneDrive for Business via your WSU email account.

*Create a new document.

*The document should open in the web app designed to edit it (for example Word documents will open in Word and Excel documents will open in Excel).

*Go ahead and begin editing the document.

*Now it is time to invite people to join you in editing the document. Click Share in the top right corner.Enter names or email addresses in to the top box that appears. Make sure you have the correct names or emails. Also make sure that the box to the right of the entry box is set to "can edit".

*Including a personal message with the invitation is optional. Click Share to share the document.

*Now open the share menu again and click on the tab at the left that reads "Shared with". You should see the people you have shared the document with.

*Your co-authors should receive an email inviting them to work on the document as well. Now all of you can work together at the same time!

ELing06: /* Formatting Your External Hard Drive For Mac and PC */

<noinclude>This page contains information on File Backup for a PC running windows to an external device such as a Hard Drive or Flash Drive. For other backup resources see File backup (Students).</noinclude>
__NOTOC__
Connecting and Finding the Device
To back up to an external hard drive or flash drive, first connect the drive to your computer. Most of these devices use USB connectors, although some of the newer ones have eSATA. After connecting the drive and letting windows mount the device, you can find it under "My Computer". It will be listed as a removable disc with some associated drive letter. Some drives will be named by the brand of the drive such as WD for Western Digital or CruserMini for a flash drive brand. Double-click the drive icon to open a window that lists the contents of the drive. It is not uncommon for some vendor files and folders to be preloaded (e.g., instructions, optional software).

Preparing Your Workspace
Once you have your drive window open, open up another window to display the laptop files and/or folders you wish to copy. Usually you can find this under My Computer > Boot/Programs C: > Data. Now organize the windows so you can see both at the same time. You can do this manually by resizing and moving the windows or you can drag the window to the far right or left side and watch it click into place in Windows 8. One way to do this, on Windows 7, is to have one window open, and then Ctrl+Click on the other window's icon on the taskbar. After that, right click and select "Show windows side by side."

Formatting Your External Hard Drive For Mac and PC on Windows 7
If there's plans for using your external drive on both Mac and a PC, formatting will be necessary. Follow the steps to format your hard drive for both Mac and PC. If you have previous data backed up on your hard drive, you will want to back it up onto your PC before proceeding.

1. Ensure that your external hard drive is connected to your computer.

2. Press the Windows key or open your Start Menu.

3. Type "computer management" in Search programs and files and open Computer Management.

4. Select Disk Management on the left sidebar.

5. Look for the name of your external hard drive, right click on it and choose Format.

6. Change your File system to FAT32 or ExFat.

*If your file system already appears to be FAT32 or ExFat, you shouldn't have to worry about formatting your hard drive.
**ExFat is recommended, but either will work on both Mac and PC.

7. Leave Allocated unit size as Default.

8. Uncheck Perform a quick format if it is checked.
*This is to ensure that your hard drive is reviewed by Windows and functional. You can leave it checked if you want to, but do so at your own risk!

9. Press OK.

10. When the "Formatting this volume will erase all data on it. Back up any data you want to to keep before formatting. Do you want to continue?" message pops up, click yes.
*Again, if you have previous data existing on your drive, you will need to back it up on your PC before continuing.

11. Wait until the process is complete. When finished, your hard drive's file system should show up as ExFat (or FAT32) in Disk Management or under properties.

Performing the Backup
Click and drag files and/or folders from your laptop window to your external drive window.

Tips and Tricks
There are some useful keyboard shortcuts during this process.
*Ctrl+A - Select all items
*Shift+Left Click - Selects items between one item and the item shift clicked on.
*Control+Left Click - Adds or removes an item from a selection.
Preparing Your Workspace
Once you have your drive window open, open up another window to display the laptop files and/or folders you wish to copy. Usually you can find this under My Computer > Data (D:) > Data.

Formatting Your External Hard Drive For Mac and PC
